While the Cellario family was enjoying their August summer break in Andalusia and Lisbon, the first bottles of their newest creation were already making their way into the world. Jo-Lino, (pronounced - “Yo-lino”)—a playful, semi-carbonic Grignolino quietly launched, and we're excited to finally have it available.
This isn't your Grandpa’s Grignolino. While the grape is traditionally known for its wonderfully angular, sometimes austere character, Fausto Cellario has reimagined it with a semi-carbonic approach that brings out bright cherry and strawberry, accented by slightly unripe red fruit and a hint of nonna's mint candy. The result is a more approachable, fruit-forward expression that shows what Grignolino can be when given room to play. It's Grignolino, but made extra cheeky.
Meanwhile, in Carrù, the family has returned from vacation energized for harvest season, with the vineyards already buzzing with activity. August 18th marked their first harvest day with the grapes for the low-abv Bassissimo, and the cellar is now alive with fermenting juice from indigenous yeasts. The progression continues through September with Pinot Noir, Favorita, Nascetta, and Grignolino, finishing with Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo. Salutè!
